Details

Join the event and discover the untouched beauty of Northern Nógrád in the Karancs–Medves region. Experience the true MTB lifestyle on technical, singletrack trails!

The Trail course, renewed year after year, is 30–35 km long and includes 800–900 meters of elevation gain. It is designed in collaboration with local riders and the Salgótarjáni HKE association, ensuring an unforgettable experience for lovers of authentic, adrenaline-filled mountain biking. The route also passes through the most spectacular and exciting sections of the area. It’s not easy, but it is guaranteed to be worth the effort.

The competition prizes are equally impressive. The top three finishers in each category will receive valuable and practical gifts worth nearly HUF 2,000,000, generously provided by BoneShaker 2006 Bt., distributor of DT Swiss, Ergon, Maxxis, Motorex, and SwissStop products.

The start and finish area of the race will be located at the Kakuk Equestrian Center, one of the region’s highest-quality event venues. Competitors and visitors will be welcomed by a large parking area, modern sanitary facilities, a bike wash, a covered grandstand, and relaxation zones. In case of rain, a nearly 2,000 m² indoor hall will be available. In addition to the cycling races, we offer a full day of family-friendly programs: a bouncy castle, craft activities for children, a mini Spartan course, and a buffet serving hot and cold food and drinks provided by Jack’s Garden.

The surrounding area is also rich in attractions, including Salgó Castle, Somoskő Castle, the Karancs Lookout Tower, the Mining Museum, the Macskalyuk Mine, the Novohrad Geopark educational trails, and Lake Középbánya. Hiking enthusiasts will also find plenty to explore. If you haven’t visited this region before, you’ll be amazed by its beauty and its excellent cycling opportunities.

In previous years, the starting pistol was fired three times in the valley beneath Salgó Castle as part of the Maraton Challenge series.
In 2026, the Medvés Trail will reach a new level, being organized as an independent marathon race under the name “I. Medvés Trail MTB Marathon.”
As part of the expanded six-stage XCM Pro Tour series, our race will also serve as a round of the Hungarian XCM Cup organized by the Hungarian Cycling Federation.

A special, simplified mini course has also been designed, where children in the U7–U15 age groups can test their skills. Additionally, a Hobby Race will be held on this course over two laps for sports enthusiasts who are new to competitive racing.

The individual main supporter of the Medvés Trail is BoneShaker/DT Swiss.

Route

The Full Loop

The 2026 race course once again brings exciting new features. With a fresh twist, we have designed a slightly longer and even more thrilling track for you.

The full loop, enriched with singletrack climbs and technical downhill (DH) sections, covers a distance of 35 km with 910 meters of elevation gain. The course consists of:

  • 1 lap for the short distance,
  • 2 laps for the medium distance, and
  • 3 laps for the long-distance race.

Virtual aerial tour of the course:

Along one section of the final 9 km of the course, heavy rainfall may create an extremely challenging clay climb. Therefore, we have prepared a “Plan B” alternative route.

This version may be introduced on the day before the race, based on the decision of the Chief Commissaire of the Hungarian Cycling Federation (MKSZ). The distance and elevation of this alternative route are nearly identical to the original course.
